Management Transition Underway: BMMI Begins Operating the Market

After a comprehensive assessment conducted in 2020 by ESD, the City of Buffalo, and community partners, the resulting Business Plan recommended the creation of an independent nonprofit to provide sustainable governance and ensure the Market contributes to the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood, Buffalo’s East Side, and the regional food system. In response, Broadway Market Management Inc. (BMMI) was established in 2021 to lead the development and management of the renewed Broadway Market.

As of November 2025, with the long-term lease between the City and BMMI now executed, BMMI has begun operating the Market and providing day-to-day leadership, consistent direction, and professional administration. This shift is intended to strengthen operational efficiency, vendor support, and customer service while maintaining strong collaboration with the City of Buffalo, the Community Advisory Committee, and the surrounding community. BMMI’s assumption of operational responsibilities represents an important step in advancing the long-term sustainability and success of the Market’s transformation.
